The Challenge
Michigan Memorial has been in the downriver community for over 95 years, providing a full range of burial services including pre-planning, funeral home, cemetery, crematory, flower shop and much more. The park includes 290 acres of manicured cemetery grounds and more than 50 burial options to honor loved ones. After making changes to the Michigan Memorial logo, new signage was needed to match the new look.
The Solution
Given the grand nature of the Michigan Memorial grounds we knew the Funeral Home gateway sign had to fit the part. An eight foot by twenty foot monument sign was proposed to replace the existing sign but given city ordinances a variance would have to be approved in order to move forward. After the Johnson Sign team was able to pass the variance, production was underway.
The new double-sided monument sign featured an illuminated sign cabinet with routed aluminum faces painted dark and light green with acrylic push-thru letters and first-surface applied digitally printed vinyl graphics, illuminated with white LEDs.Typically a sign this size would be fabricated into sections, but we were able to route the faces with no seams on our router table, giving this sign a much cleaner look. In addition to the large monument sign, way finding signage was incorporated to help guests navigate through the park.
The Result
Overall, this project was a true team effort, with everyone going above and beyond for the client. The project was completed on time and we continue to do additional work for Michigan Memorial.
